$5,000 Apprentice Grant Added to Job Accelerator Scheme
In addition to the Job Accelerator Grant (JAG) we discussed in our earlier blog, the South Australian Government has now introduced a new grant that will allow businesses that register a new employee to receive up to $5,000 ($2,500 per year), if that employee is an eligible apprentice or trainee. This is on top of the current grant for adding new employees of up to $10,000.
This additional grant will be backdated to 1 July 2016, meaning businesses that have already hired a new apprentice or trainee can still be eligible for the grant.
When must employers register for this grant?
Employers must register for this new grant within 90 days of the commencement of their new employee or apprentice. To find out if you are eligible for this grant, please refer to our previous blog 'State Budget: Employers to receive grants for creating new jobs'.
Who is an eligible apprentice or trainee?
An eligible apprentice or trainee will be trained under an approved training contract in an occupation that is declared to be a trade or vocation under Section 6 of the Training and Skills Development Act 2009.
